Simón Architecture Prize

With the desire of transmitting the philosophy of the prize programme into the trophy design, Andreu Carulla looked to Simón’s origins. With their factory based in the volcanic region of Olot, the trophy uses the natural material of Basalt, extracted from the last and only basalt quarry in Spain, just 10 kilometres from Simón’s manufacturing plant.

Using electrodes (purposefully-shaped mould-forming components tools used by Simón to produce final pieces, as an integral component of the trophy, the aim was to create a hill-top city, nestled in a volcanic rock, referencing both Simón’s origins and aim of the prize: creating a sense of belonging, purpose and embedded meaning.
